Malibu Home was designed by Richard Shapiro and the architect Douglas Burdge. Together they built this amazing place we’re about to discover.

Malibu Home

Malibu is a place where peace and relaxation reign and this is why several A-listers like Steven Spielberg, Goldie Hawn, or Dustin Hoffman decided to have a home there.

Richard Sapiro and his girlfriend Patricia Roach discover this house by accident and they fell instantly in love. This Malibu home overlooks the beach and has an exclusive view of the Channel Islands. According to Sapiro, he envisioned a home with “the look, age, and aura of a very old, windswept structure from the Mediterranean or the Aegean.”.

Shapiro is an antiques dealer and owner of Studiolo furnishings. He already had a home in the Holmby Hills. However, this Malibu home he decided that would be more personal, private, and idiosyncratic.

All in order to start talking about this outstanding house. When Shapiro has visitors, they need to follow a terrace gravel path that is lined with foliage. This path leads to a tower with a 17th-century walnut door from northern Italy. This door opens to a hall, that has the feeling of an ancient refectory, a long-abandoned Renaissance chapel, and an airy modern loft.

Besides this, within this Malibu home, we can find a Cypriot fireplace and a fourth-century Roman marble torso. In the library, we may find colored textiles from Iran and Turkey cover cushions and an ottoman.

Richard Sapiro

In this place, we can see different styles mixed up and this is just how Richard Sapiro wanted. He is passionate about arts and started traveling around the world, studying design and buying contemporary art. After this, he decided to design his own pieces of furniture and interiors.
