Miley Cyrus home has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, 6,800 square feet of Southern California, and is already fully decorated. More than that, it has been completely “Mileyfied”. Furthermore, thanks to the musician’s ace interior design team: Tish Cyrus and Mat Sanders, Tish’s design partner.
“My biggest goal is that when you walk into someone’s home, I want you to know who lives there, what their personality is, what they love, and what they look like,” says Tish. “I know Miley so well, and we are so close, so I was able to do it.” The result? Like Miley herself, the house is beautiful and bustling, yet stable and disciplined in its exuberance.
Admits Tish, “My wheelhouse is very boho chic. In my own house, I like anything neutral. Nevertheless, with Miley, you have to feel the rock and roll. There is much color.” An Ettore Sottsass bookcase, a mouth-shaped chair that wags its tongue, and a psychedelic ceiling treatment by artist Brian Robles are just a few examples of this kaleidoscopic cool.
Zoom in a bit, and it is clear that after painting the exterior of the clapboard 1950s house. “Miley, Mat, and I are a great little team because they are always. More is more,” Tish explains.
Nevertheless, Tish enjoyed embracing Miley’s cheerful maximalism. “People make bold choices in their lives, and sometimes those moves work out and bring you good luck, and sometimes they do not. However, it is a risk she wants-and I want to take in our lifestyle, and that is reflected in the design.”
Indeed. No doubt, as far as this house is concerned, those risks were well worth it. Throughout it all, however, serene notes persist.
The pool is a true meditative oasis, while the gym and wellness spaces were inspired by a trip to the sublime Amangiri resort in Utah. Miley could have hired any designer she wanted. “But for her to be like, ‘Mom, I love what you do, and I want you to do this house’ was awesome. Not only as her mom, but more than that, I never went to design school, and I am from Eastern Kentucky, too, so I think it is something. It made me feel so good.”
Miley says that the least important quality of her mother and as an interior designer is also her understanding and non-judgment. Anything Miley dreams up, her mother will create into a reality, even if it is not her style. Tish also designs for her remaining children.
Miley is not the only one who uses her mother as an interior designer. All five of them do – the same way she feeds us. “She wants the best for us. Creating spaces that reflect us is the best for our mental health, our creativity, our songwriting,” Miley adds.
Furthermore, that is true, even down to a singular work of art in the white, airy, and pristine open-plan kitchen: a black-on-black square panel with the F-word written in capital letters. “I hate the F-word more than anything in the world, but I found that,” says Tish. “I was like, if I know Miley, she is going to love this so much. Moreover, I know the perfect place for it!”
